UU#104:
IEC 61850 for End Users
Sunday, January 30, 2011, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Presented by: Christoph Brunner and George Schimmel |
Course Description:
This seminar will provide an overview of the IEC 61850 standard for communications networks for power utility automation. It is focused on the end user of the standard like a utility engineer or a system integrator, not on product development. The course will provide an overview on the concepts of IEC 61850 and a more detailed insight view on the different aspects of IEC 61850 that are of relevance for a utility engineer or system integrator that intends to use IEC 61850 communication for the utility automation in the future. At the end of the course, the participants shall understand the impact and possible benefits of IEC 61850. They shall be able to identify the issues that need to be considered when applying IEC 61850 in a substation. These issues include:
- The specification of the system supported by the configuration language and tools including the understanding of the standardized object model
- The methods for information exchange and how to configure it
- The possibility to replace wires between IEDs with communication
- The use of ethernet technology in the substation
- The design and engineering process with the roles of IED configuration tools and system configuration tools
The course material will be supported with practical demonstrations and examples as well as with case studies. |
Who should attend this course?
- Utility personnel
- System integrators
